The Medical School Course Nobody Mentioned

Somewhere between anatomy, clinical rotations, and residency, there apparently should have been a course called “Your Password Has Expired: An Introduction to Running a Medical Practice.”

The syllabus would have been extensive. Insurance portals. Credentialing applications. Claims follow-up. And the remarkable ability of a fax machine to remain relevant well into the twenty-first century.

For physiatrists, the workday already requires balancing complex patient needs, coordinating rehabilitation care, and helping people regain function and independence. Finding time to investigate why an insurance company needs information it received last month is a less rewarding exercise.

Yet those small administrative details demand attention. An unanswered request or unresolved claim can linger long after everyone assumes it has been handled. Someone has to keep track, ask the next question, and follow through.

At PRSM, that is work we take seriously—even when it requires a sense of humor. We understand the satisfaction of resolving a stubborn billing issue and giving a physician one fewer thing to think about at the end of the day.

You may never develop an enthusiasm for reimbursement details. That’s all right. We’ve built a business around ours.

And if that missing medical school course ever becomes available, we’re happy to help with the syllabus.
